“Charity Promotion”

Since its creation in 1968, UNIWAX has adopted the best technical processes and constantly evolving know-how for the development of its patterns and the manufacture of its products, guaranteeing its professionalism and the high quality of its products. Over the years, Uniwax African fabrics have acquired a great reputation among the various populations in Côte d'Ivoire and throughout Africa.

Uniwax is a corporate citizen that manufactures its products in strict compliance with existing quality and environmental standards and does everything possible to satisfy its customers, who are mainly women and from different social classes.

The economic and political crisis that has been going on in Côte d'Ivoire since the late 1990s has severely affected the population by reducing their purchasing power. The poverty rate of the population has thus increased from 10% in 1985 to 48.9% in 2008. Today, therefore, in Côte d'Ivoire, one person in two is poor and lives on less than CFAF 661 per day, according to the INS (National Institute of Statistics).

In such situation, women are once again the most vulnerable. The low purchasing power does not allow access to quality care, especially during pregnancy. Thus, the maternal mortality rate is constantly evolving and now stands at the threshold of 543 per 100 000 births, one of the highest rates in sub-Saharan Africa (Source: World Health Organization).

It is therefore in awareness of these realities and concerned with assuming its corporate responsibility as a corporate citizen that Uniwax has decided to set up a social project called "Charity promotion".

"Charity Promotion" is both a way for Uniwax to assist women in such period which is sometimes difficult, but also an opportunity to confirm its proximity to this target by supporting it at all important times in their life.

Thus, Uniwax undertakes to pay back part of its turnover acquired during this period, for the purchase of delivery kits, as per the following plan :

  • CFAF 1000 for each purchase of a set of Wax Block Uniwax African fabrics

  • CFAF 500 for each purchase of a set of Wax Print Uniwax African fabrics

The money collected will therefore be used to purchase Delivery Kits that Uniwax will donate to pregnant women with modest incomes within the Maternity and Child Welfare Centers (MCWs) and urban health facilities in the 10 communes of Abidjan.

The sales to be taken into account for this project will be those made in the Woodin Plateau and Woodin 2 Plateaux stores.

Through this action, Uniwax aims at reaching thousands of women. This operation will start on April 8th, 2010 and will end on May 8th, 2010.
