Ivorian Customs seize a large quantity of prints

On Thursday 1 September 2011, the customs services in charge of the fight against counterfeiting and drugs seized 393 sets of counterfeit prints at the print gallery at Rue du commerce in the district of Plateau. This was the result of a careful investigation by both the customs and UNIWAX.

The one-week long investigation started following a complaint against unknown persons filed by the local textile company. Indeed, the seized products, of Hitarget brand, are illegal copies of patterns already filed with the OIPI (the Ivorian Office of Intellectual Property).

Note that counterfeiting remains one of the most harmful ills of our economy and continues, unfortunately, to grow, despite the risk to consumers associated with these counterfeits:

- Risks to health (use of harmful shoddy dyes causing skin problems);

- Financial risks (fast deteriorating poor quality product);

- And legal risks (fines and prison sentences for both counterfeiters and distributors).
